Number 1 - 1st July 2000

FISM is just around the corner (July 3rd to 8th) and it looks set to be an excellent convention. A strong British contingent has been booked: Ali Bongo will be performing in the opening gala, Guy Hollingworth will MC the close-up gala and lecture, Marvin Berglas will give a presentation on Marketing in Magic, Chris Power and JJ will present the Opus Experience, Paul Daniels will be interviewed by Stan Allen and Richard McDougall will perform in both the close-up gala and the closing gala show. Also Roy Davenport is all set to enter the stage competition, so best of luck to him. Marvin's Magic are launching a competition during FISM: 'Marvin's Magic 2000,' to find the best thirty seconds of live magic and capture it on video for a new UK TV project. Held once every three years, generally in Europe, the Fédération Internationale des Sociétiés Magiques convention is regarded as the finest magic convention in the World. It's not too late to visit the official web site: www.fism2000.com 1.7.00

Magic Management is proud to announce that it has been selected by Guy Hollingworth to deal with his personal management and sole representation. John Woolvett of Magic Management said, "I am a great admirer of Guy's work and professionalism and am very pleased that we shall be working together." There are no plans to distribute the new Guy Hollingworth video, 'Routines' and his much acclaimed 'Quartet' through the usual dealer network. Instead both items, and all other Guy Hollingworth products, are available exclusively from Magic Management. For further details visit Guy's web site: www.guy-hollingworth.com 1.7.00

Simon Drake has been appointed magic advisor to Cameron Mackintosh’s Witches of Eastwick. He has brought in Paul Kieve to work with him on the project. The musical opens this month at The Dury Lane Theatre, in London’s west end. Simon assures me that some very strange surprises and 'weird items' are part of his brief. The build-in to Dury Lane is about 3 months so we can all expect an incredible spectacle from Mr Mackintosh, who must, by now, be the most famous theatrical producer in the world. 1.7.00

Illusionist Russ Stevens is currently performing aboard Aurora, P&O Cruises’ new world-class superliner, through until 15th August with an option to continue until the end of this year. He is the first illusionist to be asked to headline in the stunning 900 seat theatre, which has been designed to West End specifications. Named by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in Southampton on Thursday, 27th April Aurora will make 17 cruises to the Mediterranean, the Atlantic Isles, the Baltic and Norwegian fjords and the Caribbean before the end of 2000. P&O is one of the world’s leading cruise companies. The introduction of Aurora will build further on the strongly growing UK cruise market where demand has been increasing at approximately 15% a year for the last 10 years. Aurora will carry 1,874 passengers and 850 crew. 1.7.00

Keep your eyes wide open in Stanley Kubrick's final movie 'Eyes Wide Shut' starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (now on video). During the final scenes, which take place in a fictitious toy store, there are several glimpses of the real Marvin's Magic Shop, as well as full screen close-ups from the range. MagicWeek has the complete set of Marvin's Magic Collectable Card Tricks to give away to the contributor of the best Email, sent to the mail page, during July. See 'Reviews' to find out more about the collection. 1.7.00
