50th Bristol Day of Magic - Sunday 9th May. Champagne corks will be popping when the Bristol Society of Magic celebrates its 50th Bristol Day of Magic on Sunday May 9th. The Gala show will star Belgium illusionist Rafael (photo) with two spots including his Dracula act, and FISM first prize winner France's Pilou. The close-up shows will see first time visits from Michael Vincent and Etienne Pradier, together with the welcome return of David Stone. Graham Jolley will be appearing on the gala show together with John Kimmons and Roy Davenport. Geoffrey Durham provides the main lecture of the day with Ian Keable featured in the special one man show. A 50th anniversary night before get together is also planned for those in the vicinity with further details to be announced. With no increase in the £30 registration price it will be a bargain day featuring close-up shows, lectures, a gala show, a special one man show and of course over 25 dealers! FISM news from the Blackpool Magicians Club: "Blackpool Magicians Club's bid to obtain the European Championships from FISM has been accepted and the FISM European Championships will be held as part of the Blackpool Convention in 2011. The length of the Convention will be slightly extended in that it will commence on Friday morning at 9am and much of the Convention will be dedicated to world class Close-Up and Stage competitions.

 

A meeting will be held with the FISM Presidium during Blackpool Convention week to draft the plans for the conference. Entry details for competitors will be released as soon as possible. This will be the very first official FISM European Championships S ever staged. We will of course, as previously advertised be presenting the FISM World Championships in 2012 in July (as well as the normal Blackpool Convention in February, 2012). The official FISM 2012 website will be launched in the coming weeks.


Registrations for the Blackpool Convention in February 2010 are at an all time high and it is predicted that we will sell out before the event. Northern Magic Circle Convention update. Nathan Kranzo will be appearing at this year's Northern Magic Circle Convention (Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th March). Nathan will also be hosting a special Coin Magic Masterclass for 12 to 15 people on the evening of Friday 26th March at the New Boston Hotel in Fleetwood, Lancashire. Professor Pepper's Ghost. The Magic Lantern Society is currently running a second series of free talks at the University of Westminster, 309 Regent Street, under the title of 'Professor Pepper's Ghost'. Talks are held fortnightly and centre on forms of optical magic old and new such as the magic lantern, 3D, stage illusions and other unusual material. On Thursday 28th January theatrical illusion consultant, Paul Kieve, will be presenting a talk about his stage illusion work - entitled 'Grappling with Ghosts - Staging Ghost Effects in the Modern Theatre'.
