The Secret is Out! On the 1st June 2011, a new kind of mystery will be unleashed on the magical Mediterranean island of Malta. Marvelous Magician, Mr. Matthew Wright (former Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year and current International Champion of Close-up Magic) is set to wow locals and holiday-makers alike in an all-new evening dinner/theatre show held in the old cellar dungeon beneath famed restaurant Razzett L-Antik 1743 in Qormi. The evening dinner show, which will start with a three course meal of the finest traditional Maltese cuisine accompanied by free-flowing wine will finish with a truly astonishing display of magic, mind-reading, illusion, comedy, singing and puppetry - all in the intimate setting of the custom designed mini theatre. “I have performed at or visited many of the greatest magic venues in the world and I aim to take that experience and put it all together to create what I hope will become one of the greatest close-up magic shows in the world. As soon as I came here to Malta and walked into what has now become known as the “Chamber of Secrets” I knew that it was possible. There have been so many friends who have believed in this project and helped along the way and I have been amazed by how generous and supportive the people of Malta have been about the whole thing.” said Matthew. Simon Drake's House of Magic, London's best kept secret. Irene and Henry Webb email: "This is the best kept secret in London. The mystery starts when you see the website. You're not told where you are going until after you have booked your tickets, when you arrive on a date and time as pre-arranged you walk through the secret garden to be met at the front door by the butler who welcomes you into the house. Once inside you are transformed into a bygone age. The tour of the Haunted Cellar and the ghostly appearances are startling. The Drawing Room has some really old Posters, Books & Automina. It is a lovely place to sit and relax and admire the history of Magic. There was a meal with our ticket price. The buffet food was well displayed and tasted very good. There are two close-up Magicians working the room who were very good. The Show was really well done and Simon hasn't lost any of his originality. The knife though arm and the guys face after he got out the guillotine are not to be missed! I still remember Channel 4's The Secret Cabaret, so I am comparing then and now. I have the DVD of The Secret Cabaret which I'm told is now a collectors item and no longer for sale. We were the only Magicians in the audience that night and we enjoyed the experience. We would definitely go back again and we would recommend it to everyone." Visit www.houseofmagic.co.uk. 21.5.11

Robert John Knight. “Robert Knight passed away peacefully on 12th May aged 75 years, following a long illness over recent years. Robert was perhaps best known for his presentation skills, particularly with larger illusions introducing tigers and miniature horses into his act. Throughout his career he devoted a great deal of his energy in charitable contributions not just within the field of magic but was also a key fundraiser for the `Stars Organisation for Spastics`, and the Queen's Jubilee Trust. Following a short stint working with tigers in Billy Smarts circus at Olympia he commenced his magic career in the 1960`s at holiday camps and social functions before moving to the USA to appears on the Ed Sullivan show. Returning to England and a successful `day job` in business, he maintained his love of magic with T.V appearances in the UK and cabaret spots across the country. Throughout this time he was a constant supporter of numerous charities giving generously of his time to raise funds for many worthwhile causes. He was a life member of The Magic Circle and also a member of the I.B.M. Robert will be missed and remembered fondly by Rhonda, his children Jonathan and Victoria, grandchildren, family and friends.” Rhonda S Davis. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 24th May at 3pm at The St. Marylebone Crematorium, East End Road, Finchley. Magic friends welcome.
