Out With The New In With The Old. Will Houstoun lectures at The Surrey Society of Magicians on 24th January. Having received positive feedback for his "Thaumaturgy" lecture Will created a brand new lecture that he toured the United States with after a successful launch at The Magic Circle. The Lecture is called "Out With the New, In With the Old" and is a reaction to the tendency within the magic community to focus on the "latest and greatest". In the lecture Will looks backwards to previously unpublished material from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for inspiration to create effects that are as powerful today as any modern creation. The material, that is all fully explained, includes magic with cards, coins and other objects and is suitable for both close up and parlour performance. Some of the material is taken directly from Will's books Hellis in Wonderland and The Notebook and some is inspired by these manuscripts. Will will also teach a few modern creations including some of the material he has used as a Headline Performer at The Magic Castle in Los Angeles. Members are free and visiting magicians are welcome for a £10 entrance fee, the lecture takes place in Bookham, Surrey at 8pm. For full details contact Adam Mosley info@surreymagic.org.uk. 19.1.13

The Bullfrog. Astone from MagicalSleight.com writes: "I wanted to share with you the fact that we just launched a magazine at the UK magic convention The Session. The response has been great with people like Andi Gladwin, Joshua Jay, Mark Elsdon, Luke Jermay, Michael Vincent and Stephen Shaw raving about it. We sold out of our first batch during the convention (maybe because we gave it out to all the participants!). This magazine is going to be a quarterly magazine containing items created by the MS team and guests. You will discover unpublished material. The subjects will vary a lot but will include: Card magic; Cheating techniques; Mentalism; Magic with usual objects; Coin magic etc. In addition to that you'll get great tips and you'll be able to follow the adventures of the Bullfrog."
