Tom Elderfield 'Making the Magic' - The Order of The Magi, Manchester. Geoffrey Newton PRO writes: Making the Magic, a lecture by Tom Elderfield is scheduled for The Order of The Magi in Manchester on Tuesday 14th November. We are advised that he has quickly grown as one of the first of a generation of magicians using Instagram to show off their new creative work. From doing this he has gained a reputation for creating highly visual and crazy gimmicks with everyday objects. He makes real life camera tricks out of nearly anything! This has also resulted in multiple viral videos. Already Tom has created tricks for some of the biggest TV magicians, travelled the globe showing his magic and had multiple successful releases all while still in his teenage years. The lecture will teach you effects as seen on his Instagram and performed on TV, as well as some never seen before material. You will learn how to create gimmicks and his theory and method on creating magic with everyday items. All this presented with his fun enthusiasm towards magic. This is a truly unique lecture which you will not want to miss. Door charge for non-members. "The Level of Magic produced by someone so young is mind-blowing and inspirational" Dynamo. www.orderofthemagi.org.uk. 4.11.17

Steve Gore lecture, Scottish Conjurors Association. From the organisers: Steve Gore makes his Scottish debut as he presents his brand new lecture for the Scottish Conjurors Association on Wednesday 8th November. His lectures have received excellent reviews following presentations at the Magic Castle, the IBM British Ring Convention, the British Magical Society and at over twenty magic societies. His new lecture includes lots of his original effects including 'The GPS Deck', 'The Amnesia Deck', 'The Casino Con', and 'Visions from Vegas'. He also lectures on other non-released effects which can be made up yourself. It’s not all close up too, there are effects for stage, stand up and mentalism, so there really is something for everyone. All his effects are also easy to master, allowing you to focus on the presentation. "Straight away from the off, Steve showed us some bewildering effects based on his own ideas; everything from a trick with a rubber band to some powerful card work, which was strong in performance but easy to do. His nice laid back style made the lecture very enjoyable. Steve takes time to make sure everyone fully understands the routines and how to do them." Clive Moore, President of the IBM British Ring. www.scamagic.org. 4.11.17

From the publishers: The very latest copy of the UK's only independent magic magazine is now available and on the cover are Young & Strange who seem to spend quite a bit of time playing down their considerable successes! Geraint Clark explains three great ways to get gigs, top US kids worker Christopher T. Magician dispenses more wisdom in the second part of Ask Christopher, and Mel Mellers reveals the secret to great comedy. With the sad demise of Eugene Burger we offer personal recollections of the great man from three close friends who provide interesting insights into what made him special. The Masterclass has effects to learn from Michael Kaminskas and Liam Montier, the Review Section features the comments and opinions on the latest releases from our team of reviewers, and there's an interesting article on the steps that Andi Gladwin of Vanishing Inc is taking to try and stem the tide of magical piracy, especially that emanating from Asia. All this plus more is yours to enjoy via a 1 or 2 year printed copy or download sub, or as part of a pay-as-you-go printed copy sub, or simply as a single printed or download copy purchase.
