James Ward
Mind, Mirth and Magic Lecture
 James
is a semi-professional magician, member of The Magic Circle, and
President of the Harrogate Society of Magicians. He has written for
several magazines, including Abra, The Magician, The Budget, The Linking
Ring and Mystery. He has also contributed to Peter Duffie's acclaimed
Mind Blasters and Mind Blasters 2.
He has delivered lectures to several societies in the north of England,
and, over New Year 2005/6, was invited to India, where he performed and
lectured for up to 1200 people at the Chandannagar Magic Festival, near
Kolkata.
His lecture, "Mind, Mirth and Magic", offers a mix of easy-to-do card
and mind magic, and concludes with a comedy workshop, which draws on his
experience as a freelance TV/radio writer - James has had gags and
sketches broadcast on Radio 2, Radio 4, the World Service, BBC1, ITV,
S4C (Welsh Television) and in mainland Europe. Humour is a vital part of
good, entertaining magic and, hopefully, by the end of the lecture, you
will, in addition to learning some new tricks, have a better idea of how
to script your own comedy patter.

The Pick and Mix' lecture/dem

is a unique concept in lecturing! Normally when you book a lecturer, it is
he who decides which items you are going to see. This is fine if the
selection of material happens to match the interests of the club members,
but clearly not so good if too many of the items fall outside those areas
of interest.
Now, for the first time, I am offering clubs the chance to see a lecture
which contains effects which THEY choose! From a possible list of 20
varied routines, you can select up to 8 that you would like me to perform
and explain. The list of effects comprises of 20 of my E-Routines, a set
of tricks which has been collected from my many books and lecture notes.
Some of these have been in lectures before, but many haven't. Virtually no
specialist apparatus is required for any of the routines.
When you book the 'Pick and Mix' Lecture/Dem, you simply provide me with
your selection of 8 routines from this list. You can either have the club
committee or a single committee member of the club make the selection on
behalf of the members, or you can print out the list and have the members
make their own choices from which you then opt for the most popular
selections. Either way it puts YOU in control and hopefully will provide
an appropriate and entertaining evening.
The lecture part of the evening will normally last between 60 and 75
minutes. After a short break I will then present a dealer dem for
approximately a further 30 minutes featuring some of my most recent
releases with the opportunity for the members to buy them before the
close.
