Loki
Loki has been performing professionally for twenty years. Starting as a clown,
he progressed through to street theatre, and finally appeared on the cabaret circuit in the early
nineties. He studied mime at drama school which he later decided to incorporate
into his magic. Indeed he also performs every so often as a classic mime. Mime technique has helped no end to shape and develop his
character.
Although tending more towards the bizarre movement, Loki is not strictly "a bizarrist." However he does believe in adding a theatrical premise to his work, and some of his routines could easily be described as "dark." Although his character is really more akin to the Joker from the Batman comic books, and doesn't necessarily ally itself to the more traditional bizarrist type character.
The name Loki was taken from that of the Norse God. The name meaning God of mischief, a trickster and a joker. It fitted well and was adopted in the late eighties.
Loki continues to work on original and unique magic. Up until recently, the effects were not necessarily original, but the routines and staging were. He is particularly proud of his dancing cane routine, a favourite now, that he has been performing for almost ten years. Also his snow routine, which was of course made famous by David Copperfield.
This year sees the release of his latest work, PROJECT: XENOMORPH. This time the white face is coming off, as the character has evolved for this sci-fi thriller. The magic is original, the effects having been created by a specialist in the film industry, Steve Allen. Steve worked with Jim Henson, famous for the Muppets, and also worked on the film Labyrinth starring David Bowie. Loki was introduced to Steve purely by chance, and together they have worked on PROJECT:XENOMORPH, creating some truly original effects for the show.
