Rob Cox
Rob is a busy professional magician specialising in Close-up and Cabaret magic with the accent very much on comedy. For the past 6 years he has lived just north of London, at Borehamwood, with his partner, Close-up magician, Mandy Davis.
Although Rob has been interested in magic since he was a cute, if rather round, 7 year-old, he had no family background in show-business whatsoever. So he continued with his studies gaining an honours degree in Pure Mathematics before becoming a teacher. During his twenties, magic had to compete with another interest - music! Rob had learnt to play the guitar and was soon composing songs and recording them with Reflection Records. In 1979 (Out of his twenties by then!) he co-produced and co-wrote an album called 'Thursday's Child' which was released on the Grapevine label. In 2001 he will be working on a re-release of an album, 'Sounds of Salvation', copies of which are fetching over £200 on the Internet at the
moment!
Rob had risen to the dizzy heights of Deputy Head of a Comprehensive School in Luton when he became involved in drama and joined Splinter Theatre Company. In 1984 he starred in a play, which he also wrote (based on the improvisations of the company) which was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play was a great success and critically acclaimed - but so was the magic show that Rob put on each lunchtime!
It was soon after that that Rob gave up the life of teaching to become a full-time professional magician. It was tough at first as Rob had to make contacts and prove himself in the world of entertainment. Now he has performed all over the world including a week at the prestigious Magic Castle in Hollywood. Rob is an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star and an elected member of The Magic Circle Council. He is also secretary of the Watford Association of Magicians.
Rob's influences include Ken Brooke, Terry Seabrooke, Simon Lovell, Eugene Burger and David Williamson. "I go around having fun with people and they pay me," says Rob, "What better job can one have?"
