Blackpool Magicians Club President's Dinner

Tolley’s Restaurant, Hambleton

16th May 2014

The Blackpool Magicians Club can always be relied on to put an event to be remembered and President Russ Brown, with assistance from Derek and Anne Lever, made sure that the dinner held on Friday May 16 at Tolley’s Restaurant in Hambleton was no exception. Some 70 members and partners enjoyed a champagne reception followed by a feast of food, music and magic.

The cabaret emceed by Bob Wooding, got off to a rousing start with Tom Ryan singing Don’t Stop Me Now. And this was just a taste of what this popular cruise artist could do, for he then went into a more sombre mood with a love song, followed by a Korean number, before ending on an applause getting number.

The magic was provided by Hi Jinx (Michael Jordan and Tamzin). This young and talented duo has come a long way since their prize winning days, no doubt due to regular performances of their illusion show at the Horseshoe Bar in Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach. Opening with the illusion Split Press where Tamzin was cut in three by steel rods, we then saw Michael with the five card repeat with jumbo cards. Then there was the Sword box using umbrellas instead of swords, followed by Michael juggling three large knives while riding a unicycle, and ending with a giant snowstorm. It was fast paced and slick, and all done with the assurance of seasoned professionals.

So ended a very enjoyable evening.
