An Evening with Michael Vincent - Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians

This new lecture for 2014/15 is Michael's heartfelt tribute to his friend and mentor Alan Alan. This will be a conversation on taking our magic to the next level and achieving personal mastery in the craft of magic. Michael will feature many classic routines from his repertoire which features many of the lessons passed onto him by Alan Alan and Slydini. This conversation will look at the steps we magicians can take to make the magic we already do even better. Mastery is about self-discovery, living with our material, refining, finessing and testing in front of our audience. The steps to achieving mastery in any field require passion, dedication and a commitment to performance excellence. The intention of Michael's lecture is to inspire magicians to look at the tricks they already perform and ask, "How can I make this effect better, how can I transform this effect and make it play big for a large audience?" The lecture starts at 8pm on Wednesday 5th November. Visiting magicians welcome for a fee of £5.00. Venue: ECC Sports and Social Club, Showell Road, Wolverhampton WV10 9LU (Map). The Festival of Magic - London

Jim Steinmeyer will be lecturing both during the Festival of Magic and at the International Magic Convention in London, in November. Jim is responsible for popular illusions featured by professional magicians around the world, and special effects in theatrical shows from Broadway to Las Vegas. Through his designs and his writing on historical magic, he's been credited with creating the "defining illusions in contemporary magic", deceptions featured by Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, Harry Blackstone, Orson Welles, The Pendragons, Lance Burton, Mark Kalin & Jinger and many others. But his work is not only confined to illusions. He has created unique effects both for the stage performer and close-up worker. His lectures truly are ones that have something for everyone. His historical knowledge has been spotlighted both in his presentations at The Magic History Conference in LA and in his books, including Hiding The Elephant and Glorious Deception. The Convention will be held from November 14th -16th at The Mermaid Conference Centre in central London, and The Festival of Magic will be held from November 10th -14th at The Bridewell Theatre just off Fleet Street in London. The Festival consists of separately themed days where the stars of the Convention have a chance to speak at more length and detail, on their particular niche subjects. This year the day themes are:

Monday November 10th - Mentalism Day with Morgan And West, Joseph Barry, Master Payne & Tony Sagittarius.
Tuesday November 11th - Card Magic Day with Jon Armstrong, Joseph Barry, Michael, Vincent, Will Houstoun & Master Payne.
Wednesday November 12th - Magic History Day with Jim Steinmeyer, Mike Caveney, Pete Lamont & Master Payne Ian Keable.
Thursday November 13th - Stage and Screen Magic Day with Jonathan Pendragon, Jim Steinmeyer, Mike Caveney, Frankie Glass, Tina Lenert, Richard Wiseman, Jon Armstrong & Master Payne.

International Magic Convention - London

Jonathan Pendragon will present his one man show on the Friday night of the International Magic Convention in London on November 14th. The convention organisers write: Not only will Jonathan be performing, but he will also be lecturing both at the main Convention and at the Festival of Magic in the week leading up to the Convention, in a special 'Stage Magic and Illusion Day'.

With three Presidential Galas in Washington D.C., performances for the Queen of England, the Prince of Wales and the Royal Family of Monaco under his belt, it is no surprise that he is the youngest performer to ever receive a Performing Fellowship from the Academy of Magical Arts (the governing body of the Magic Castle). Considered by many as the Master of Grand Illusion Jonathan redefined the art of illusion with a dramatic new style, “Physical Grand Illusion.” This style of Illusion put the emphasis on the physical performance instead of the prop. At a time when magician after magician presented larger and larger illusions on television, some of which were elaborate camera tricks, Jonathan wowed international audiences with illusions based on years of physical training, including dance, gymnastics, and martial arts. He created The Pendragons, an illusion team who were as spectacular in their appearance and movement as anything they presented. Metamorphosis, their most famous illusion, involved a split-second transposition that would have fooled Houdini (the illusion’s inventor), according to the 2005 50th Anniversary Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

This is an unprecedented chance to see and hear Jonathan talk about some of the groundbreaking illusions he has created and what it takes to create performances that have been seen in at least 14 prime time network television specials in the United States, and on television in approximately 50 countries around the world. As previously announced on MagicWeek, due to limited seating at The Bridewell Theatre, tickets for the Friday night Convention events are now only available as part of a full registration for the whole Convention and registration prices are being kept the same as last year for all events, if you book before March 2nd. This is a great opportunity to enjoy performances and lectures by Tom Mullica, Jonathan Pendragon and many more star names still to be released at a truly affordable rate. To register visit www.internationalmagic.com.

He has amazed both laymen and magicians with his devious mind, producing miracles with cards, silks and coins, all with his own particular twist. If you have already attended one of his previous lectures you'll know why he has achieved such success. If you have never seen him lecturing before, you are invited to peek into his original world of magic. Magic Night at Madame JoJo's - London

Friday, November 21st: " Psychic comedians, money from thin air, dangerous knife routines and huskily sung tunes by the ukulele toting Lady Carol. It would be scary if he wasn't quite so hilarious, and the beautiful Lady Carol will rework some classic tunes with her smoke and whiskey drenched voice and a ukulele. MAY 2015

The Dundalk Day of Magic

Sunday 3rd May. "The Irish Convention will adopt a new format next year when for one year only it becomes the Dundalk Day of Magic on Sunday 3rd May 2015. Organised by the Irish Ring 85 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians the venue will be the stunning Carrickdale Hotel and Spa who are now accepting overnight bookings. A full programme of lectures, dealers, evening meal and cabaret show is promised, along with legendary Irish hospitality! Organisers are keen at this time to hear from anyone keen to lecture, deal or perform at the convention (or all three!). Interest from overseas is particularly welcome, although budget constraints would favour those willing to include the convention as part of an Irish holiday or UK lecture tour. The organisers can be contacted on ring85.convention@btinternet.com."
