Kevin Quantum: Illuminations - EdFringe

August Dates

CatFace Talent Presents the brand new show from 2015 sell-out, award winning magician, and Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Magic Festival; Kevin Quantum (formerly Kevin McMahon). After a sell out show last year, Kevin Quantum returns to the Edinburgh Festival with his new offering ‘Illuminations’ at the Gilded Balloon’s Debating Hall. Ten years ago, unassuming scientist Kevin paused his Physics PhD to become a magician, being tutored by none other than magic royalty Penn & Teller. Kevin has thrived in this field, applying a rigour to the world of mystery with fascinating results. A decade on and still a conjuror, Kevin shoots magic into the 21st century by illustrating scientific principles so amazing you need to turn to magic to express them live. This show is inspired by light; our relationships with it, the thoughts and feelings light can evoke and the wondrous sights which can be created before our eyes. ‘Illuminations’ is the exotic space where science ends and magic begins. Each day, Kevin will showcase stunning light-based illusions including creating fire in the palm of his hands, recreating a will-o-the-wisp, (for the first time at the Fringe), flying this glowing ball of light above the heads of the audience and, (for the first time ever), the creation of a rainbow live on stage. Kevin Quantum has designed state of the art magic and fused it with incredible science. In turn, he has created some extraordinary results.

As magic creatures go, Kevin fits somewhere between Gandalf and Brian Cox and is the closest thing to real magic a believer, or a cynic will ever find at the Fringe. “Epic stunts, genuinely impressive magic” Broadway Baby. Venue: Gilded Balloon, Debating Hall. Dates: 3rd-29th August (Not 4th, or 22nd) Previews 3rd & 5th August. Time: 4.30pm. Age Range: PG. www.quantummagician.com.

Ben Earl Liverpool Workshop

18th September

Alan Singleton writes: A rare opportunity has come up and it is on a first-come, first-served basis; be quick as there are only 25 places available! I have managed to book Ben Earl for a workshop here in Liverpool! Many of you will know Ben from his appearance on Penn and Teller's Fool Us (which he did) and somehow I've managed to persuade him to hold a 7 hour workshop up here! I met Ben many years before P&T... I managed to get him to do a lecture for the Liverpool Magic Circle. I must confess at that time, I had never heard of Ben, just whispers of this 'underground magician' whose thinking and card skills were second to none. I have to say, the skill and thinking demonstrated by Ben was simply incredible! Over the years I have seen many of the top magicians, and I have never witnessed card skills which come close to his. I seriously urge you to get involved with anything Ben does, and this is a particularly rare opportunity (plus I've heard whispers that his new workshop is something amazing... the word 'revolutionary' has been mentioned several times!). I am not going to expand here on what's on offer at the workshop, here is a link, which will explain in detail what the workshop is all about: benjaminearl.com/the-shift.
