Number 20 - 11th November 2000

More details have come through for this year's 29th International Magic Convention. This has to be my favourite British Magic Convention. Perhaps because it was the first convention that I ever attended, perhaps because over the years it has featured some of the World's greatest magicians... Albert Goshman, Richard Ross, Robert Harbin, Finn Jon, Wayne Dobson, Jeff McBride, and many more... But probably because it's always fun to see so many magic friends. The Convention runs over three days: Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd, and Sunday 3rd December 2000 and is held in London. Friday features lectures at the Thistle Euston Hotel (formally The Kennedy). Saturday features more lectures, and a close-up competition that is recognised as one of the world's most prestigious magic competitions. Offering a 1,000 first prize, 500 second prize, and a 100 third prize. The competition is still open for entries; if you wish to enter contact Martin MacMillan (details below). On the Sunday daytime events take place at the Congress Centre, Great Russell Street, where you'll see dealers and close-up shows. And in the evening it's over to Her Majesty's Theatre, in the Haymarket, for the International Gala Show. The line-up this year: Rudy Coby (pic USA), Michael Menes (USA), Kenji Minemura (Japan), Davide Costi (Italy), Scott Penrose (UK), Noel Britten (UK), Vladik Miagkostopov (Ukraine), Eric Buss (USA), and Johnny Lonn (Sweden). For registration and competition information: Telephone: 020 7405 7324 Email: Or visit their website: Conventions 11.11.00

Magician (and funny man) Danny Buckler, one of a handful of magicians on the London comedy circuit, is currently enjoying great success presenting magic "live." "It goes down really well on the circuit - it's different." You can see Danny perform at the Old Town Hall, Hemmel Hempstead on November 18th, and regularly at Molly O'Grady's in Woking. Danny will present another "one-off" at this year's MindMagic 2000 seminar tomorrow. 11.11.00
