First Premier League Resident Magician. In 1993 Marvin Berglas became soccer’s first Premier League resident magician. Today, thirteen seasons later he still manages to find the time to combine his two passions - Arsenal and Magic - as the match day entertainer for the VIP and sponsors at Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal have recently moved from Highbury to their magnificent new home, Emirates Stadium, a state of the art ground with a capacity of 60,000. With the tremendous new hospitality facilities the scale of the operation has increased significantly and Marvin now heads up his award winning team in keeping with the Club’s high standards. The photo shows Marvin with Marc Paul and Nick Einhorn (who both came up through the ranks at Marvin’s Magic). Others in Marvin’s team this season include Michael Vincent, David Redfearn, Scott Penrose, Sav and David Penn. Says Marvin "I am proud of my close association with Arsenal and of the magicians we provide on match days." 16.9.06

Alan York emails: Further to your news item about the forthcoming film “The Prestige”, readers might like to know that this film is based on a novel “The Prestige” by Christopher Priest published in 1995. According to the author, “The Prestige” is what UK magicians would call “The Effect”. The novel includes lots of theory about magic and magicians which is unlikely to be included in the film. The plot line revolves around Nicola Tesla and early experiments in electricity. The Sunday Times described it as “a magnificently eerie novel.” Available from Amazon.co.uk with 20% off Click Here. 16.9.06

Following the sell-out success of Merlin’s Secret in February 2006, The Fabulous Magic of Doctor Bondini comes to the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch. "Featuring the talents of Erin Downton and Carly Graves as the Ladies of Mystery, Doctor Bondini promises a fun-filled show for all the family, with lots of audience participation as well as great drama, hilarity, spectacle and grand illusion. He is a traditional magician – with a twist. With sumptuous sets and costumes, he will transport you to ancient Egypt, India and the Orient. Further mystery and suspense is presented in an operating theatre where a body transplant takes place, and of course, this would not be a Bondini show without his famed doves. This is a truly exciting and spectacular show, which will leave you spellbound. It is a unique experience, and is perhaps the only full-scale illusion show touring today." Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, Essex. Friday 22nd September at 7pm. Box Office: 01708 443333 www.pmbproductions.co.uk. 16.9.06
