The much anticipated Les Misérables from Cameron Mackintosh and Working Title was released in the UK yesterday. The film which has already received rave reviews and several Golden Globe and Oscar nominations features Sasha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter as the thieving innkeepers Monsieur & Madame Thénardier. In the Frost Fair scene, James Arnott (photo) provided a Punch and Judy style sequence with puppet characters of the Thénardiers. Both actors were taught pickpocket skills by specialist consultant James Freedman who also choreographed the pickpocket sequences. The musical is unique in that all of the vocal performances were captured live on set, rather than pre-recorded, which has produced some beautiful, naturalistic performances.
