British Ring Convention, Bournemouth - updates... The British Ring Convention (24th – 28th September) in Bournemouth is getting closer with Lectures, Stage and Close up Competitions, Dealers Showcase, Workshops, Sooty Show, Trip to Beaulieu, History of Mystery, Gala of Youth, Stars of the Future, Gala Dinner, International Close Up, Stars Magic and Variety Show including Daniel Dean and Company (photo). In fact everything you could reasonably expect from a convention will be there on the Jurassic coast in a few weeks’ time. If you have not already done so, now is the time to register as there are only two weeks left to take advantage of the current rate for members of £130. From 1st July it increases to £145 (in all cases the Dinner, Sooty Show, and trip to Beaulieu carry nominal additional charges). Full details are on where you can register and also find some hotel details. It is a long time since the society held their convention in Bournemouth so this will make a welcome return to a resort well known for its character and charm. If you require any flyers to circulate to your local society members please contact me on 0161 969 8222 or email Geoffrey Newton PRO & Advertising Manager. 14.6.14

Many congratulations to Darcy Oake on his success in last Saturday's Britain's Got Talent Final. Darcy is, in fact, the first magician in BGT's 8 year history to make it through to the final. Russ Stevens was the illusion consultant on both of Darcy's illusions and on James More's winning appearances the previous year, so congratulations to Russ too!

Introducing Magic SMS 2... Mind Reading via Text Message, from the brilliant mind of Angelo Carbone: Imagine a magic app that does not look like you are running an app... Imagine a magic app that creates powerful mind reading magic... Imagine no more. Introducing Magic SMS 2... Mind Reading via Text Message. The Effect: You tell your friend that you know someone who is psychic and that you want to put him to the test. You ask your friend to freely think of any colour and any playing card. Nothing is spoken or written down. You send a text message to your psychic asking him to guess what your friend is thinking of. You then turn off your phone and put it aside. From this point on you never touch the phone again. You both patiently wait for the text message to arrive. Moments later, an SMS does arrive. The preview message in the Lock Screen shows that it is indeed from the psychic. Now that the message has arrived you ask your friend to confirm what they had thought of. You ask your friend to pick up the phone (as you don’t want to touch it) and to read the full reply. They will be utterly amazed to see that the psychic has correctly guessed both the freely thought of colour and playing card. Wow!

"The best magic trick app that I've seen; beautifully thought through." Derren Brown. "This is such a strong and effective use of magic on the iPhone. Finally!" David Blaine. "Magic SMS is the coolest effect I've seen in years! Trust me you'll be texting everyone about this. Amazing!" Dynamo.
