The MagicWeek Video Archive. This week Tempest & Cottet, in a beautifully crafted routine that they presented on 'The Paul Daniels Magic Show' on 30th January 1988. Thirty one years on and this performance is still wonderful to watch. The Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year Competition - tomorrow at 6pm! Finalists Adam Black Dunblane (Perthshire), Ryan Jackson Stock (Essex), Theo Mellor (London), Robbie Stevens (Suffolk), Zach Weaver (Leicestershire) and Amos Wollen (Kent) compete. There will be two shows on Sunday April 7th. The preview is at 2.30pm and tickets for this are £8. The actual Final with judging is at 6pm and tickets for that are £15. This is the thirtieth Young Magician of the Year Competition. Anthony Owen, Moira Fletcher, Geoffrey Durham and Oliver Tabor judge, and Darren McDonald is the compère. Miss Sylvia Sceptre wins Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians Stage Competition. Sue Oakley writes: On Wednesday 3rd April, The Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians held their annual stage competition. The Tony Shelley Cup was won by Careena Fenton performing as her Victorian alter ego, Miss Sylvia Sceptre. This is the first time ever that the cup has been awarded to a solo female performer since the Competition began in 1962. Careena is pictured, receiving the trophy from WCM president, Mark Harrington. Careena is performing her stage show Phantasmagorical on May 17th at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton and also at The Brighton Festival on 26th & 27th May and The Small Space on 17th July 6.4.19

Ace Magic Studio Dealer Dem - South London Magic Society 14th May. From the organisers: On the 14th May South London Magic Society host a Dealer Dem by Martin Peirce of Ace Magic Studio. The first half will be a lecture and the second half a dealer dem. In Martin's lecture he will perform and explain many of his pet routines: 5-4-3-2-1, a Just Chance routine that can be done impromptu; Paranormal a lovely strong and easy to do effect with the emphasis on your helper; Upside Down Powder, a borrowed shuffled deck in a 'Do As I Do' performance; Signs of Business, the best magical way to hand over your business card; Noted, a gambling routine that involves lots of audience participation, and more. Adam Hudson lecture - The Modern Mystic League, Blackburn. Adam Hudson will present his 'The Mind of Adam Hudson' lecture for The Modern Mystic League in Blackburn on Sunday 14th April at 2pm. The lecture is packed full of unique pieces of mentalism that have been created by Adam over the past twenty years. Systems to work out birthdays, PIN codes and thought-of playing cards will be explored with a teaching style that Derren Brown kindly labelled as "inspiring". Auction: The Magic Collection of Ray Goulet, April 27th. A well-loved collector, publisher, producer, performer, and friend to all magicians, Ray Goulet amassed one of the great American collections of conjuring memorabilia. On April 27th, many of the scarce and rare props, magic sets, magic-themed sheet music, framed posters, and other elements of his Mini-Museum of Magic will go on the block.
