Steve Blake. Awful news to report that Steve Blake died on the morning of Wednesday 27th December from Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, aged 70. I guess I must have know Steve for 40 years or so, typically bumping into each other at the Blackpool Magic Convention. Steve loved silent magic and carved out a really successful career with his wife Tricia in the cruise ship industry, not only as performers but on the production side as well, staging full shows. And as is often the case with silent magicians off-stage they can be the funniest of people and Steve was always that! Simply great company. There were hundreds of posts on Facebook which I hope is some comfort to Trish (Tricia). He was really loved and will be greatly missed by so many. Duncan Trillo. James Freedman Lecture - South London Magic Society. Simon Rosselli writes: James Freedman will be lecturing at South London Magic Society from 8pm - 10pm on Tuesday 9th January. James is a two-time winner of The Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year competition who now showcases his sleight of hand skills in a different way... as a pickpocket! His one-man show 'Man of Steal' achieved critical acclaim in Edinburgh before transferring to London’s West End. As a magic consultant, James has taught secrets, magic and sleight of hand to actors including Helena Bonham-Carter, Sir Ian McKellen, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. His work won an  Intermedia-Global Silver Award at the World Media Festival.

In this lecture created for magicians of all abilities, James will explain his handling of some classic effects and teach some simple pickpocket techniques too, all in an effort to highlight the difference between creating magic and just presenting tricks. £10 admission on the night for non-members, which can go towards Club Membership if you decide to join: 8pm on Tuesday 9th January at Clock House Methodist Church, Clock House Road, Beckenham, Kent BR3 4JP (opposite the Station). 30.12.23
